Buying guide
How to choose laser safety glasses
Choose laser safety glasses by the wavelength of your laser, not by the colour of the lens. Find the wavelength on the device or in its manual, then pick glasses whose filter is specified for that exact wavelength, with the optical density your laser requires. The patient needs separate eye shields.

1. Find the wavelength of your laser
The wavelength is given in nanometres (nm) on the device's label and in its user manual — for example 755 nm on an Alexandrite laser, 808 nm on many diode hair removal lasers or 1064 nm on an Nd:YAG. A filter protects only within the range it is specified for, so this number decides which glasses you need.
Some devices emit on more than one wavelength. A Q-Switched Nd:YAG works at 532 nm and 1064 nm, so its operator needs a filter for both: the OVIO Q-Switched model covers both bands.
2. Which OVIO glasses for which laser
Each OVIO operator model is calibrated to one laser wavelength — the Q-Switched model to two. Find your laser in the first column. Every pair for the operator costs €135 and the patient shields €91, excluding VAT and delivery.

Technical data from the OVIO product sheets. If your device is not in the table, or you are not sure of its wavelength, send us its model on WhatsApp or at office@ovio-vision.com before you order.
3. Optical density: what OD6 means
Optical density (OD) tells you how much of the laser radiation a filter lets through at its wavelength. Each step is a factor of ten:
| Optical density | Share of the radiation that passes the filter |
|---|---|
| OD5 | one hundred-thousandth — 0.001% |
| OD6 | one millionth — 0.0001% |
Every OVIO operator model is OD6 at the wavelength it is calibrated for, except the CO₂ model, which is OD5+ across 5000–11000 nm. The optical density your work requires depends on the power and pulse settings of your laser: it is given in the device's specifications and its manufacturer's instructions. Compare it with the model's specification before you order.
4. Several lasers in the same clinic
Each OVIO operator model is specified for the wavelength in its name. If your clinic works with several lasers — say a 755 nm Alexandrite and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG — you need a model for each wavelength. Diode lasers at 808 nm and 810 nm have separate OVIO models: choose the one that matches the wavelength on your device.
To equip a whole clinic, send us the list of your devices and we will reply with the matching models and an offer: WhatsApp, office@ovio-vision.com or +40 722 468 176.
5. Operator glasses and patient shields
The operator and the patient need different protection. The operator wears filter glasses calibrated to the laser, so they can still see the treatment area. The patient, who lies in the path of the beam, wears eye shields that block the radiation physically.
| Operator | Patient | |
|---|---|---|
| Product | OVIO laser safety glasses (11 models) | OVIO ceramic eye shields |

6. IPL is not a laser
IPL (intense pulsed light) devices emit a broad band of light, not a single laser wavelength. None of the OVIO operator models is specified for IPL: for the person operating an IPL, use the eyewear specified by the IPL device's manufacturer.
For the patient, the OVIO ceramic eye shields are a physical barrier rated for 190–3000 nm, and their product sheet lists IPL treatments as well as laser treatments.
7. Fit, visibility and prescription glasses
- All OVIO operator models have a 60° field of view, so you see the whole treatment area.
- How much visible light a lens lets through decides how bright the treatment area looks: the Q-Switched lens lets through 30% of visible light (VLT 30%), the CO₂ lens 70%; the other models have variable optical transparency.
- The Q-Switched 532/1064 nm and CO₂ 10600 nm models are worn over prescription glasses; the Nd:YAG 1064 nm · Tattoo model has a shape compatible with them. For the other models, ask us before you order.
8. Certification and markings
According to the OVIO product sheets, every OVIO operator model is certified to EN 207:2017, the European standard for filters and eye protection against laser radiation.
Laser safety eyewear is marked on the filter and the frame with the wavelengths and protection levels it was tested for. Before each use, check that the wavelength of your laser is within the marking on the glasses and that the lenses and the frame are not scratched or damaged. If you need the full marking or the certificate of a model for your clinic's laser safety records, ask us before you order.
Safety glasses do not replace laser safety training, your clinic's protection procedures or the instructions of the laser safety officer, where there is one.
Questions and answers
Do I need different laser safety glasses for each laser?
Yes, if the lasers work on different wavelengths. A filter protects only within the range it is specified for, and each OVIO operator model is calibrated to the wavelength in its name — for example 755 nm, 808 nm or 1064 nm. The Q-Switched model covers both 532 nm and 1064 nm.
Is OD6 enough for my laser?
It depends on the power and pulse settings of your laser. The optical density your work requires is given in the device's specifications and its manufacturer's instructions; compare it with the OVIO model — OD6, or OD5+ for CO₂ — before you order. If you are not sure, send us the model of your device.
Which glasses do I need for a diode laser with several wavelengths in one handpiece?
Glasses specified for every wavelength the device emits — for example 755, 808 and 1064 nm together. Each OVIO operator model is specified for the wavelength in its name, so send us your device's model and wavelengths before you order and we will tell you what fits.
What is the difference between the OVIO Diode 808 nm and 810 nm glasses?
Each is calibrated to its own wavelength: choose the one that matches the wavelength printed on your device. Both are OD6, certified to EN 207:2017, with a 60° field of view; the 808 nm model comes with a pink or a green lens, the 810 nm model with a pink lens.
What is the difference between the two OVIO Nd:YAG 1064 nm models?
Both are OD6 at 1064 nm and certified to EN 207:2017. The Tattoo model has a green lens and a shape compatible with prescription glasses; the Vascular model has a dark green lens and a sturdy frame with adjustable temples.
Does the lens colour change the protection?
No — the protection comes from the filter, calibrated to a wavelength, not from the colour. For the Diode 808 nm and Alexandrite 755 nm models, the pink and the green lens have the same specification on the product sheets: OD6 at the model's wavelength, certified to EN 207:2017.
Do OVIO glasses protect against IPL?
None of the OVIO operator models is specified for IPL, which emits a broad band of light rather than one laser wavelength; use the eyewear specified by your IPL device's manufacturer. For the patient, the OVIO ceramic eye shields (190–3000 nm) list IPL treatments on their product sheet.
What should the patient wear?
Eye shields, not filter glasses: the OVIO ceramic eye shields are a physical barrier — a lead body with a micro-ceramic coating — rated for 190–3000 nm, in sizes S, M and L, at €91 excluding VAT.
Can I wear OVIO glasses over prescription glasses?
The Q-Switched 532/1064 nm and CO₂ 10600 nm models are worn over prescription glasses, and the Nd:YAG 1064 nm · Tattoo model has a shape compatible with them. For the other models, ask us before you order.
What comes with each pair?
Every pair for the operator comes with a hard zip case and a microfibre cleaning cloth. The ceramic patient shields come on their own.
